Ten Songs to Chew on People to

I am a really big fan of music relating to werewolves. Like, a really really big fan of it. To an embarrassing degree. My iTunes werewolf playlist is over four hours long.

But I digress: to celebrate my birthday today, here is the unofficial Lycanthropology 101 list of songs to chew on people to.

1. The Animal—Disturbed

Loud and aggressive, just as any werewolf song from a metal band should be. The music video is a little bizarre but—what are ya gonna do.

Taking form in the glimmer of this tainted moonlight
Death approaches on this night
For the animal’s soul is mine
We will be completed right before your eyes
I have no control this time
And now, we both shall dine
In hell tonight

2. Waking the Demon—Bullet for My Valentine

A less bizarre music video, but the makeup job is terrible. You’ll see what I mean. (Also this isn’t technically the official video. The official video is overlaid with the radio version of the song, which is TERRIBLE. So here’s the video with the album version instead.)

Caution
There’s just no limit to the boundaries you push
I’ve warned you but still you just fuck with my mind
There’s no escape from this rage that I feel
Nothing is real

3. Little Red—GrimWolf

GrimWolf is the greatest band in the world if you like metal and also werewolves. This video is oozing in sheer camp. I love it.

Little Red
You’re fucking dead
Little Red
You’re fucking dead

I’m gonna eat you alive
Oh the tears you’ll cry
Small innocent child
Tender meat

4. Lickanthrope—Moonspell

Yet another video based very, very loosely on red riding hood. It’s a popular song, I suppose. Fortunately the song makes up for the obvious choice in fairytale.

Wolves gleam in human eyes
Stealing tears from divine
Break of hope, break of necks, hand on leash
Can’t go wrong, lickanthrope!

5. Bark at the Moon—Ozzy Osbourne

What? It’s a classic! (Grimwolf covered it, too!)

Howling in shadows
Living in a lunar spell
He finds his heaven
Spewing from the mouth of hell
Those that the beast is looking for
Listen in awe and you’ll hear him

6. Werewolves of Armenia—Powerwolf

While Powerwolf is very similar to GrimWolf in content (lots of werewolves and vampires and satan) the sound is wildly different. And it’s still excellent.

Hallelujah when the moon is up—hu, ha
We are werewolves, all we need is blood—hu, ha
Take a silverbullet for your shot—hu, ha
We’re immortal, all we fear is god

7. She-Wolf—Megadeth

No, it has nothing to do with either Shakira or Sia. Get that idea out of your head right now.

One look in her lusting eyes
Savage fear in you will rise
Teeth of terror sinking in
The bite of the she-wolf

8. Wolf—Iced Earth

One of few songs, to my knowledge, that actually directly references the 1941 film The Wolf Man.

Even a man who’s pure
And says his prayers by night
(He won’t hear your prayers)
Man become a wolf
When the wolf bane blooms,
And the autumn moon is bright
(There’s a full moon tonight)
Man may become a wolf

9. Du riechst so gut—Rammstein

One of only a handful of foreign songs on my playlist, but it’s a good one. Trust me.

Die Spur ist frisch und auf die Brücke / The trace is new and your sweat is
tropft dein Schweiß dein warmes Blut / dripping onto the bridge, your warm blood
ich seh dich nicht / I don’t see you
ich riech dich nur Ich spüre Dich / I only smell you I feel you
ein Raubtier das vor Hunger schreit / a predator roaring with hunger
wittere ich dich meilenweit / I scent you many miles away

10. Of Wolf and Man (Live)—Metallica

I don’t know why the S&M version of this song is leagues better than the album version, alright, it just is.

Shape shift—nose to the wind
Shape shift—feeling I’ve been
Move swift—all senses clean
Earth’s gift—back to the meaning
Back to the meaning of life

Honorable mentions:

  • Literally anything else by GrimWolf
  • Powerwolf’s Lupus Dei
  • El Dog’s Hey Werewolves
  • Canis Lupus’ Join the Pack EP
  • Werewolves in Siberia’s The Rising
  • Anything regarding Michigan’s Dogman by Steve Cook

  1. Oh I’ve loved MoonSpell for…it seems like decades now….

But we should swap our Wolf song lists….I’d love to see what you have that I don’t.

And I have obscure stuff from all over the world……English or not….lol….I love it all….well that is as long as it’s good.
